on Saturday we awoke from our tents, did the dishes, and got ready to head out towards Bandelier national monument. We first drove through the rim of the mighty caldera which forms the Jemez Mountains. we saw the Valle grande, a vast field, and wove down the mountains into Los Alamos and to Frijoles Canyon where Bandelier lies. We saw incredible cliff dwellings which were evidence of the communities of Anasazi people who lived there almost one thousand years ago. check out these videos and pics from some of the cliff houses and the incredible Alcove house. we left Bandelier for Santa Fe but on the way we stopped shortly at white rock where there was an amazing overlook of the rio grande (pic), we got to Santa Fe and started a search for a Laundromat when it was already 8:00 and most places were closed. that night we had an excellent dinner at a pizza place called La Dolce Vita. At this Italian restaurant you actually were treated like family and the food was unbeatable. If you're ever in Santa Fe the address is 945 w. Alameda st. and it is definitely worth going out of your way to eat at.
that night we decided against a 2 hour, midnight drive back to camp and instead stayed at a motel in Santa Fe.

Spectacular. You're lucky guys to have moms who take you to places like this. G'ma
ReplyDeleteA.ce,
ReplyDeleteIn the two videos are you up around, then inside, the cliff dwellings that are shown in the still photos?
Some videos are hard to follow because the camera moves too quickly or the sound fades in and out.
I wonder what is protected from people trampling in, out, and over.
ReplyDeleteThe scenery is spectacular. The Grand Canyon will be nothing compared with Jemez and Soda and Bandelier, because you already know what it looks like from so many images. Hiking down will be nothing, too. Camping at the bottom will be different, though, and then hiking up.
yes we could climb into a few select dwellings
ReplyDeletesorry about the video quality its not ment to be perfect its kinda like a scrappy jounal
